On Sunday, March 24th, 2024, Somerville Police Control received a call from Sunglass Hut, located at 511 Assembly Row regarding a shoplifting.

The three individuals involved were described as a Hispanic female wearing a long, camo jacket accompanied by a Hispanic male wearing all black with white shoes and another Hispanic male wearing all black with a red backpack and heading in the direction of Coach Outlet, located at 561 Assembly Row.

I, Officer Barton (E1), along with Officers Fusco (E4) and Pavao (E3) responded to the area of Assembly Row.

Upon arrival, Officers checked Coach Outlet (561 Assembly Row), Banana Republic (559 Assembly Row), and LOFT Outlet (601 Assembly Row), and were unable to locate those parties.

Officer Fusco called the Assembly Row Security Office and was told that those parties had also recently entered and possibly stole from Nike (300 Artisan Way).

We then made our way to Nike, to be told by the security there that those parties had left roughly 10 minutes ago and had stolen a pair of sneakers.

Officer Fusco was then alerted by the Security Office that one of their employees spotted the Hispanic female wearing camo and the Hispanic male wearing all black with a red backpack at the corner of Assembly Row and Foley St., heading toward the Assembly train station.

Officers then stopped those parties in front of Miscela Apartments (485 Foley St.).

It was soon realized that those two parties did not speak English and were Spanish-speaking only. Through a translation app and one of the Assembly Row Security Officers who was also Spanish-speaking, Officers were able to communicate with the suspects and informed them why they were stopped.

The parties were carrying Nike bags containing a pair of sneakers, several fragrances from Sephora (449 Assembly Row), and  articles of clothing from Adidas (544 Assembly Row), and Puma (341 Artisan Way).

The parties were unable to provide any receipts for the items and claimed to have thrown them away.

I then asked them to identify themselves and the male wrote down that his name was "XXXX" and that his D.O.B. was XXXX, however he stated that he was 18 years old, yet in his property was a Lynn English Highschool I.D. with the name "Miguel Gallego Quintero"

The female had written that her name was "Luisa Rojas-Zapata" and that her D.O.B. was XXXX.

Neither party had a physical I.D. on them and I could not find any record in CJIS with those names and D.O.B.s.

I then asked about the sunglasses from Sunglass Hut, seeing as that was what the original call came in for and "Miguel" stated that the other male that they were with was in possession of them, but that he did not know where he was.

I asked "Miguel" what this other male's name was and he wrote down "XXXX" and was unable to give a D.O.B., but thinks that he is around 19 years old.

Officer Pavao had taken the merchandise back to each respective outlet and spoke with employees, having them confirm that the parties did in fact, shoplift.

Itemized receipts were provided by Adidas, Puma, Nike, and Sephora, showing the following items taken and their value.

- Adidas: 1 item valued at $25.00 ($12.50 after 50% off)

- Nike: 1 item valued at $140.00

- Puma: 1 item valued at $90.00 ($45.00 after 50% off)

- Sephora: 17 items valued at $795.83

Officer Pavao also advised me that he witnessed video footage of the Sephora shoplifting by concealment and stated that the "XXXX" was in possession of the vast majority of the items and that the 17 items left with "Miguel" and "Luisa" was not nearly close to the unknown total amount/value stolen.

I would also like to note that through the translation app, "Miguel" had typed "I'm sorry I won't do it again"

Myself and Officer Fusco then placed "Luisa" and "Miguel" in handcuffs and called for Unit 200 to transport the prisoners back to Somerville Police Headquarters, located at 220 Washington Street, where they were booked by Sgt. Van Nostrand.

I then attempted to return to the stores to gather more informtion and collect video footage, but the stores had closed for the night. Officer Pavao then stated to me that he was advised the surveillence would be available to collect at a later date via follow-up.

It was not until after "Miguel" was booked that it was confirmed that his name is Miguel Gallego QUINTERO.

The four itemized receipts from Puma, Adidas, Nike, and Sephora were tagged and placed in evidence.

Seeing as Officers were unable to positively identify Mr. "XXXX", further investigation is required to ascertain his identity. A photo of him from Sephora's cameras is  attached.

I will be taking out the following charges on Mr. Miguel Gallego QUINTERO & Ms. Luisa Rojas-Zapata:

c.266 S.30/C - Larceny Under $1200

c.266 S.30A/D - Shoplifting by Concealing Merchandise (3 Counts)

c.274 S.7 - Conspiracy

Respectfully Submitted,

Officer Barton #367
